Today was noticeably the first day back at work for the music biz, and the KV inbox is brimming with news of new releases and tours. These are some we’ll be looking out for:
Tom Morgan – Orange Syringe, album out 4th February – as a teenager, Tom’s songwriting – which I originally came across via The Lemonheads song It’s a Shame About Ray, and later through his bands Smudge and Sneeze was an absolute favourite of mine. He’s releasing a solo album on Fire. Opener ‘One True Love’ is quite a slow country-tinged dark number, single “Taste for Blood” is more familiar territory:
The Childrens Hour – SOS JFK also on Fire, is actually a rerelease of their 2003 album. The Childrens Hour comprised Josephine Foster and Andy Bar, and created some lovely pieces of folkiness. The album is out on 21st January 2013,and you can download ‘The Special king’ here:
American indiepoppers Tullycraft release the Phil Ek-produced album ‘Lost in Light Rotation’ in March, with the title track to come as a single on Fortuna Pop! on January 28th.
Pere Ubu‘s new album “The Lady from Shanghai” is out today on Fire, you can download the splendidly odd track 414 Seconds here
Finally, Berlin-based composer Masayoshi Fujita has an album of vibraphone music on flau on January 21st. It’s quite haunting and intimate work, well worth a listen – check him out at http://masayoshifujita.com/
