A Christmas greeting from KV

Hello folks,

It’s Christmas Eve eve, and I’m sort of reviving the old fashioned tradition of  the festive round robin. Don’t worry though, I’m not going to go into detail about travels to foreign lands or how well my gardening efforts are going (not bad, just in case you were curious).  My presence on these here pages has been a little scarce of late and for that I apologise. Truth be told, life has been less Pains of being Pure at Heart and more ‘pains of growing up’ and kind of hectic but hey, it’s the holidays and nearly a crisp new year!

In true festive style, here are my top 5 Christmas songs.

1) (Sorry Matt!) Pogues & Kirsty Macoll –  Fairytale of New York

The one Christmas anthem I never tire of, a punch drunk love song to one the greatest cities on earth. Sweet!

2)  The Beach Boys – Little Saint Nick

I could cheerfully include the whole Beach Boys catalogue of Christmas hits, but this is my favourite. What else needs to be said, it’s just great!

(Shindig! wow, they don’t make them like that anymore!)

3) Another popular 60s beat combo with troublesome brothers now, this time The Kinks with their tale of rascals bothering poor old Father Christmas.

4) Low – It was just like Christmas

A rare moment of cheer from Low, and it’s bloody lovely too.

5) East 17 – Stay Another Day! …. only kidding: It’s David Bowie & Bing Crosby  -The Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth

“I’m David Bowie I live down the road….you’re not the poor relation from America are you?” One of the oddest pairings in the Christmas cannon and a token bit of cheese to accompany your crackers!

Merry Christmas, everyone! Matt has jetted off for the holidays and I’m bringing in the New Year with Sonic Youth – can’t wait!
